In my calc3 class we also spent a month on fourier series which i'm not sure is part of other calc3 curriculums. Nonlinear partial differential equations (NPDEs) frequently arise in formulating fundamental laws of nature and in mathematical analysis of a wide variety of problems naturally arising from meteorology, solid-state physics, fluid dynamics, plasma physics, ocean and atmospheric waves, mathematical biology, chemistry, material science, etc. But lets say I have the expression: yy'=x<=>y dy/dx=x<=>y dy=xdx => ∫ydy=∫xdx<=>bla bla solve for y. I know this works, but I gues my point is, singe when is dy/dx an actual division? I heard awful things about DE before i went into the class and heard that calc3 was super easy but then i found it was the opposite. I haven't taken much math in years and plan to study alg and precalc over the next six months in prep for the test. Linear algebra is easy. Boyce and DiPrima - Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems (Tenth edition), available in the university bookstore.

Really? Understanding properties of solutions of differential equations is fundamental to much of contemporary science and engineering. Partial differential equations appear everywhere in engineering, also in machine learning or statistics. These fancy terms amount to the following: whether there is a term involving only time, t (shown on the right hand side in equations below). Fundamentals of Differential Equations presents the basic theory of differential equations and offers a variety of modern applications in science and engineering. They are used to understand complex stochastic processes. DiffEq is more straightforward. It's usually pretty easy to tell what differential equations can be solved with what techniques, and many of the techniques are pretty fun. A good professor can make most things seem easy while a bad one can make every detail complicated, and it also depends on how hard tests they do.

,

I thought Calculus III was harder than differential equations. "Diff Eq is one the toughest (perhaps THE toughest) required math course in engineering curriculums. Even when you take away all the math, physics can still seem hard. Some people will act like it's the hardest thing when they aren't well-studied in math fundamentals (and I suppose a bad professor can make it unnecessarily difficult) but conceptually, the actual material in ordinary differential equations isn't difficult to understand. 258. It was not too difficult, but it was kind of dull.

These math equations went viral for being much more complicated than they seemed — or so simple that people got tripped up overthinking them. I think that if you did not have trouble with Calc II, you will not have trouble with Calc III.

. Guell I'll just have to practice. If you are a physicist then it is because dy/dx is a fraction. As pointed out, the best way to get do diff-eq, do a bunch of practice problems. though i am retaking calc 3 after dropping it last sem. 3rd Mar, 2019. Diff Eq involves way more memorization than Calc 3. Not tensor calculus? This keep being asked again and again, and I blame this on stupid calculus book for avoid explaining this and try to pass it off as something else (I had in fact complained about this issue in the past on reddit). Differential Equations 2 : Partial Differential Equations amd Equations of Mathematical Physics (Theory and solved Problems), University Book, Sarajevo, 2001, pp. If you are not a physicist then there's a bunch of maths that amounts to "sometimes you can pretend dy/dx is a fraction and not have things go terribly wrong".

Maybe that is why I found Diff Eq tougher was that I was completely uninterested in it. [quote] Differential equations looked very hard too, when we were first introduced to them in 11th grade, all of us lost it, we thought this was something overboard. Looks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser.
